The Pickle Proof. Andhra Pradesh needed a cultural festival identity as bold as its culture. We asked one question: what does every person in this state love enough to fight for? The answer was not a monument or a historical figure. It was Avakai -the fierce, unapologetic mango pickle that defines Andhra kitchens. What began as a naming insight evolved into a large-scale cultural identity system unifying cinema, literature, and culture under one unmistakably local voice.
The Challenge
Andhra Pradesh possesses a strong cultural legacy spanning classical dance, cinema, literature, and regional art forms. However, these cultural pillars had never been presented through one unified visual identity.
Previous festival branding systems often felt generic and disconnected from the local cultural context. The challenge was to create a festival identity that felt indigenous, contemporary, and scalable across multiple platforms and public environments.
The objective was to design a cohesive cultural identity system capable of unifying cinema, literature, and culture under one recognisable visual language while maintaining authenticity at every touchpoint.
The identity also needed to work seamlessly across outdoor media, environmental graphics, digital campaigns, event communication systems, and public installations across multiple districts.
Solution- Rooted in Local Truth
COMDEZ built the identity around one culturally undeniable symbol — Avakai, the iconic Andhra mango pickle.
The naming transformed the festival from an institutional event into something deeply local, emotional, and instantly memorable.
To support the scale of the festival, a modular visual ecosystem was developed featuring folk-inspired illustration systems, contextual colour palettes rooted in Andhra references, and scalable communication assets designed for both physical and digital environments.
The identity system unified cinema, literature, and cultural programming under one cohesive visual language while remaining adaptable across large-format outdoor media, social campaigns, event systems, and public installations.
